Sue Receives Confucius Statue on Behalf of 2 Million Houstonians

Confucius Statue

On September 26, Council Member Lovell represented the City of Houston in formally accepting the statue of the Chinese philospher Confucius, a gift of the People’s Republic of China.Houston artist Willy Wang created the statue, which now sits in Hermann Park. At the dedication, Council Member Lovell was joined by Council Member Wanda Adams and Andrea White, First Lady of Houston, as well as other dignitaries including Liu Guangyuan, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, D.C., and Gao Yanping, Consul General of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Houston. The statue dedication also marked the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of Chinese-American relations.
